Shannon has been a resident of Calgary for over 20 years. Shannon and her husband have two adult children who both graduated from Calgary Catholic. She began her volunteering experience with Calgary Catholic school district as a member of parent council. Her core values are family and service to others. She models her Catholic faith through her long and significant history of volunteering particularly with organizations that support Catholic education.
Shannon holds a Chartered Professional Accountant designation as well as an ICD.D designation from the Institute of Corporate Directors. Her most recent work experience was as the CFO for a publicly traded land development company.
She currently serves as the Chair of the Board of the Calgary Catholic Education Foundation (“CCEF”). She has been involved with the CCEF since 2013. The Foundation’s mission is to enrich the educational experience of students in need within the Calgary Catholic School District. To accomplish this, the Foundation invests in our youth by providing unique and innovative learning opportunities to the students in the Calgary Catholic School District. During her time with the Foundation, her focus as a board member has been on three areas; providing quality educational opportunities and enhancements within schools, creating greater equity among students by providing opportunities for all students and supporting the faith component of Catholic education which educates the child as a whole.
She served as the treasurer and part of the executive team of the Kara Community Advisory Association (“KCAA”) for more than 12 years with her service ending in 2020. The KCAA's mission is to provide non-educational support to the Kara program, a program which supports and uplifts pregnant and parenting students in the Calgary Catholic School District. The KCAA also provided financial support to programs and activities that supports at-risk students attending St. Anne’s school. The goal of the Kara program is to give students the support they need so that they finish high school and encourage the students to go on to post-secondary education by providing scholarships. Shannon’s goal during her time with the KCAA was to ensure that the Board could make effective use of its resources to advance its mission and to ensure financial sustainability.
She also currently serves as member of the Finance and Risk Management Committee of Silvera for Seniors ("Silvera"). Silvera is a not-for-profit organization which is home to 1,500 residents. For more than 50 years, Silvera has provided a diverse selection of safe, affordable housing and important services to independent older adults in Calgary.
Shannon’s education and business experience is an important asset to what will make her an effective school trustee.
