Shannon believes that every child deserves the opportunity for an education that prepares them to succeed in life and that the foundation of Calgary Catholic’s excellence in education is the model of faith and learning that Calgary Catholic uses to educate its students. Shannon looks forward to strengthening and improving Calgary Catholic as leaders in excellent education in Alberta by becoming a trustee for Ward 9, 10 and Chestermere.
Shannon is proud of her long history of volunteerism particularly with the organizations that support Catholic education. Her commitment to supporting education is based on her belief that education is an investment in our future and nurtures the next generation of leaders who equipped with Catholic education will be innovative, creative and faith based. Her experience of being a parent of children who attended Calgary Catholic and her lengthy experience as a volunteer with Calgary Catholic related organizations has provided her a background and understanding of students in our communities and the Calgary Catholic School District.
Shannon is passionate about providing choice for parents who seek Catholic Faith as their priority of their children's education. She will protect the rights of publicly funded Catholic education and work to ensure the sustainability of the Catholic education system.
Throughout her career as a financial professional and as a volunteer, Shannon has demonstrated effective skills in communication, leadership, strategic thinking, stewardship and fiscal responsibility and has demonstrated the ability to look at the big picture. She has a significant amount of governance experience which has taught her the importance of patience, collaboration and innovation.
Faith is important to Shannon but so is management and educational outcomes.
Shannon has the desire, passion and time to commit to being an effective Calgary Catholic School Trustee and hopes for your support.
I acknowledge that we are gathered here on the traditional territories of the Blackfoot Confederacy, including the Siksika, Piikani, and Kainai Nations. I also acknowledge the territory of Treaty Seven, that is also home to the Tsuut'ina Nation and the Stoney Nakoda First Nations of Bearspaw, Chiniki, and Wesley, and the Métis Nation-Region 3, and all the people who make their homes in the Treaty 7 region of Southern Alberta.
I acknowledge all the many First Nations, Métis, and Inuit whose footsteps have marked these lands for centuries. I respect and affirm the inherent and treaty rights of Indigenous people. I recognize the contributions of the Métis, Inuit and all Indigenous peoples have made and continue to make in shaping and strengthening our community and country.
